Medi Harris from Caernarfon Swimming Club is another athlete who epitomises the promising young talent that SportsAid Cymru Wales seeks to support on their path to the podium.
Medi is the u-15 UK No.1 in the 50, 100 & 200 backstroke after taking gold in all three events at the 2017 British Summer Championships in Sheffield. Her storming performance built on her success in the pool at the Commonwealth Youth Games in the Bahamas in July.
In a letter to SACW, Medi said “I want to let you know about my swimming achievements since I received your grant. At Easter, in the Welsh Nationals in Swansea, my time in the 100 backstroke qualified me for the Welsh team for the CYG in the Bahamas, where I came 4th in the 100 backstroke, then got a silver medal in the 50 and a bronze in the 200. My time for the 50 was a British record for 14-year-olds, my 100 was a Welsh Junior record and my 200 was a joint record holder (Welsh Juniors).” What a prospect! Here’s Medi (centre) in action in the CYG…
