Aelwen Davies Moving On Up

2025 has been a transition year for Aelwen going from Youth (u16) racing to first year Junior (u18). Up until this point Aelwen has been a multi-discipline cycling (mountain bike, cyclo-cross, road and track) amassing 14-Welsh and five British National titles across the different sports.

In 2025, Aelwen decided to focus primarily on track and road. The transition has not been easy since one discipline does not necessarily support the other e.g. mountain bike (high cadence, short bursts of power and top end, and honed bike skills) V’s track (slow cadence, high power, high continuous endurance) disciplines, therefore her results do not reflect the effort or performances she has put in whilst playing ‘catch-up’ to the other girls. 2025 has exposed Aelwen to racing home against senior / elite women in the UK and the very best Junior girls across the world whilst racing in Europe. Never quite finishing off races to hit podiums but always finishing high in pack.

Season highs include winning Welsh titles 15 & 16, and British National title (her first senior and in a team event) on the track. Aelwen is part of the Welsh Junior Academy and one of the select few on confirmation for GB Olympic Development Squad for track and road, with full selection scheduled sometime next month.

Photos below reflect some of Aelwen’s year in pictures – a couple of her with rare appearances on her mountain bike and cyclo-cross bikes proving that she has the skills and talent of just turning up and comfortably winning ‘off-road’ races - the remainder are of track and road.

We are sincerely grateful to SportAid Cymru for their support.
