Hi there,
Now my season has finally come to an end I wanted to update you on my progress this year.
In March I travelled to Sheffield to compete in the U17 English Indoor Combined Event Championships. Due to entries being full when I applied it wasn’t until a day before that I learnt I could compete due to a space becoming available. It was a tough competition, as I expected, but a big PB in the long jump in the last but one event moved me clear going into my least favourite event the 800m. I managed to hold on to win my first English title.
My first Heptathlon of the year was in Yeovil at the end of April. It went well and I managed to get a Heptathlon personal best despite twisting my ankle at the beginning of the second day.
In July I managed to gain selection to represent Welsh Schools for the seventh time in Carmarthen. The selection was made even more special as I was asked to be the girl captain for the meeting. I was selected to compete in High Jump and Shot. Both events went well, and I managed to win a bronze medal in the Shot Put.
My focus after this then switched back to Heptathlon and my main competition of the season was the U17 English Outdoor Combined Events Championships in Windsor. The first day went well and put me in a strong position going into day two. I managed to stay in front and a personal best run in the 800m meant I was able to hang on for the win.
My final event of the year was only last weekend where I competed for Welsh Schools in Glasgow at the Schools Indoor Combined Events International. Again I was given the massive honour of captaining the team. After a tough day of competition, I came away with a silver medal.
I’d like to say a massive thankyou for the support you have provided me this season. Knowing that Sport Aid Wales is behind me has provided a great confidence boost and helped me continue my progress throughout the season. The funding has contributed massively to travelling to meetings, entry fees, kit and equipment. A strong winter awaits, and we go again next season.
Your support is making a huge difference!
Many thanks,
Matilda Quick
