Hello, my name is Steffan Raynor Owen. In 2024 I was given a grant by SportsAid Wales/Cymru which has helped me so much this year.
As soon as I received my grant, I purchased new equipment to replace the ones that were old and falling apart, which helped me achieve new personal best scores. So, here is a summary of what I have achieved in 2024 because of my SportsAid Wales grant.
In March, I became the U15 barebow men’s Welsh indoor champion. This was my first time competing at this event, so despite being a little unconfident going in I still managed to take home Gold.
In June, I became the under 15 outdoor champion for my bow type in the UK at the Junior national outdoor championships for the first time. This was my second time at this event, however this year I took home Gold instead of Silver.
I said on my SportsAid Wales application form that one of my goals was to be able to shoot for Wales, and in July this came true. At the AGB youth festival, me and my teammate Jessica Lethbridge (also a SportsAid Grant recipient) won Gold for Wales in the U18 Barebow mixed pairs teams in the home nations event. Also, the rest of the Wales team did so well, that we placed first overall in the home nations, taking home the home nations cup!
In September, I shot for my County of Glamorgan in a team, taking home Gold in our category and Gold overall, meaning that Glamorgan won the Welsh intercounty cup. As well as this, I won my individual category, meaning that I am now the Welsh U15 barebow men’s Champion
Back to indoors - in December I had the honour of yet again representing Wales at a national event. I was representing Wales at the Junior National indoor championships. I am very proud to be able to say that Wales placed first in my category (barebow) beating England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. I also won in my individual category, meaning that I am now the UK indoor u15 barebow champion!
